XMF Kawasaki BOB

Founded in 2004, Xtreme Machine and Fabrication (XMF) is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Owners Scott Mears and Jimmy Owens are dedicated to customer support, both to the end user and the retailers selling their products. They cater to the average UTV enthusiast and also have an extensive racing program that is used for testing and RD, which provides them with instant product feedback. “No company is perfect and we don’t pretend to be,” says Scott, “but when there is an issue, we are always there to resolve it.”XMF primarily sells their products through their dealer network. They specialize in UTV suspension kits and are well-known for their racing achievements. They have sponsored many local drivers in a multitude of events. In UTV racing, they have local championships and wins in desert racing, short course racing, and CORR events. Some of their drivers include: Robert VanBeekum, Corry Weller, Jeffery Spooner, Austin Kimbrell, Jake Person, Court Cromwell, Jimmy Myer, and Justin Quinn. One of the biggest concerns the guys at XMF have about Side X Sides is that, because they are not typically high-horsepower vehicles, people underestimate them and don’t realize that they can get hurt. “UTVs need to be treated with respect,” says Jimmy. “It has been our experience that, in stock form, they are very tippy. Since most people are using them for recreation rather than work around the farm, we recommend that people address this issue with a suspension upgrade. It will widen the stance and improve the handling on rougher terrain.”On the Teryx that Xtreme created for the Battle of the Builders, they did just that. They upgraded the suspension with an XMF +5 Long-Travel Suspension Kit and Walker Evans 16-way adjustable shocks. This gives the vehicle 15.5” of travel in the rear and 16” up front. Hyperco springs and billet aluminum reservoir mounts add strength, as does an XMF 4340 heat-treated axle. A new front brake line assembly provides additional safety.

Xtreme Machine and Fabrication components are featured throughout the Teryx. A two-seat play cage with an aluminum top was installed with an optional windshield. An XMF light bar on top improves nighttime visibility. The cage also includes front and rear bumpers, as well as a bolt-on cooler/fuel rack. A convex billet rear view mirror and 4” side mirrors give the driver a 360-degree visual. BS Sand Seats with billet seat belt inserts and Crow belts are installed using XMF lowering seat bases. An XMF Billet Dress-Up Kit includes an assortment of goodies: shift knob, differential button, shift gate bezel, glove box handle, ignition bezel, and light switch knob. XMF bolt-on door bars, grab handles, dome light, and head set hangers give the Side X Side a custom look.

A complete communication package on the XMF Teryx includes a PJ’s Performance Center Console, which was designed for the build because the hood does not open, making it hard to run wiring for accessories. An intercom/radio system keeps driver and passenger in communication with each other and car to car. A Lowrance 540c GPS unit keeps them on track.

XMF gave their Teryx a 65+ horsepower boost with a few adjustments to the motor. They added a Weller 840 Kit, Muzzy dual exhaust, a CDI box, and an AFE Intake. They also replaced the cams with Well Racing Cams and had the heads custom ported.
When the XMF Teryx was complete, the guys had a hard time resisting the urge to jump in and take it for a spin. “Once the car was done, we were all afraid to take it out for a test drive,” says Scott. “We have tested hundreds of cars, but never with a print deadline and a photo shoot. So, we took a few photos of our own and put it back in the trailer.” At least they got to play with it eventually…
