Beadlock Dilemma

RZR OWNER:
Would it be better to use a true bead lock rim on the RZR?
I’m thinking rather than purchasing a set on Dune Stars for the sand and a set of Bighorns for the desert, just put the Bighorns on something like the T7 beadlock so I can air them down for the sand. Although pricey, the one set should be cheaper than two sets of tires and wheels.

I think that your best bet is going to be with the set of Bighorn tires with a bead locked wheel. While paddle tires work well in the sand, the power to turn them puts strain on your engine and drive train, causing a lack of power and clutch wear. I have heard of complaints on the RZR’s belt wearing quickly, so putting more strain would only make things worse. You want a tire in the sand that will give enough to spin the tires and get you going on top of the sand, but still grip enough to get traction with slower speeds and climbing.

I see the one set of bead locked off-road tires being a great benefit when it comes time to loading and unloading. The last thing I want to do when I get home from riding all weekend out in the sand is come back and change tires, or change tires before loading. With bead locked wheels you will be able to air down your tire of choice to a much lower psi than without the bead locks. I usually run my set of 26×14″ Bighorns on OMF bead locked BOGART wheels at 3-4 psi with great results. Good luck with your search and hopefully this helps you out with your shopping dilemma.
