| Tim Berendes and Jason Glasser are co-owners of SDR Motorsports, Inc. in Perris, CA. They specialize in everything Side X Side, from full custom builds to the smallest accessory. Their most popular products are their sport cages, doors, bumpers, and new LT6 suspension kits. They also see a trend toward the hunter/sportsman segment of the UTV market and are currently developing several new products to meet the needs of these customers.SDR builds three things into every part they offer: strength, safety, and style. They do not believe that any one of those components should be sacrificed in favor of the other. They spend a lot of time with customers to determine their vision of the ultimate Side X Side and then go to work engineering and building exactly what they want. The guys at SDR have fun doing what they do, but do not lose sight of what matters most: safety. “Lack of consumer education concerns us,” says Tim. “It’s a huge concern when we see people strapping their kids into a horribly built cage, cheap belts, or nothing at all. We should all be concerned about these poorly made products. As more injuries occur from shoddy, cheap, in-it-for-a-buck products, it jeopardizes the future of our industry.” With those values as their foundation, SDR set out to design a Teryx to meet their standards. To begin, they stripped their Teryx down to the bare chassis and started there. Of the parts that didn’t make it back on were the bed, suspension, cage, seats, bumper, and seat belts. They love the stock Teryx platform – “It’s super solid. What’s not to like about a V-twin motor?” – and wanted to see what they could do to ramp up the comfort and performance. They added their SDR Premium Bed Delete/2-seat cage because they wanted to show their most popular product. The custom nature of their bed delete kit allows many options, including a spare tire mount, tools, fuel cell, cooler, or just about anything you can think of. They also installed their “Basher” front bumper and SDR half doors because they feel the stock Teryx needs a little more protection in this area. For comfort, they replaced the stock seats with Twisted Stitch Aggressor Seats and Crow Enterprizes 3X3 4-point belts. The seats were installed on SDR T-3 seat bases because they are stronger than the stock bases and the lower the center of gravity. The suspension was upgraded to an SDR LT6 because the guys thought the build-off was the perfect opportunity to debut their new kit. For performance, SDR added a Pro Circuit Dual Exhaust, which is USFS-approved. An AFE Intake Kit is another part of the equation because more air means more power. A Moose Jet Kit and Dynatex CDI ignition box finish the motor upgrades. In terms of style, SDR went with bright red plastics, ITP T-7 14” Beadlock Wheels, and Maxxis G2 Bighorn Tires (25×9x14). A Rigid Industries EDGE LED light bar fits neatly at the roof line and looks really clean. The crew at SDR is really happy with everything they chose to include on this build. Says Jason, “We stayed away from fancy billet, custom paint and the like because we wanted to keep the emphasis on our parts – how they work and look on an otherwise stock Teryx. We feel the entire project works really well together as a package and hope you agree!” |
