Grant’s son, Chad, has earned a winning reputation in the world of CORR UTV racing. He has taken what he has learned on the race course, through error as well as success, and used his knowledge to design the ultimate race Teryx. For the Battle of the Builders, Funco rolled out the first of many Funco/CGR (Chad George Replica) Teryxs. They utilized all of the bolt-on aftermarket performance parts of their partners on the race-winning factory Funco-built Montclair Kawasaki Teryx.Funco left all of the factory components on their Teryx, with one exception. They removed the stock steel bed and replaced it with a bed delete kit of their own design, reducing the weight while retaining the stock look. From there it was all about the bolt-ons. Again, Funco added many upgrades that they manufacture themselves. A two-seat cage and front nerf bar provide the additional protection needed in a race application. Funco +4 suspension setup with King Shocks and 300m axles provide a better ride and dependability. Many of Funco’s racing partners also contributed to the Teryx build. Engine upgrades such as a Muzzy 840 kit and exhaust crank up the power so the driver can reach racing speeds. C&G Performance Tuning modified the jetting. A Dalton Pro Clutch Kit with billet overdrive cap hooks up quicker and improves response. A Dynatek ignition controls the spark and timing, adding even more improved performance. A PWR high-performance radiator and fan keep things cool out on a fun ride or on the race track. Uni Steer power steering gives the driver full control over the tires on any terrain. In terms of looks, the Funco Teryx sports a Kawasaki green color scheme designed by Twisted Images Paint. Matching Beard TSX seats with Simpson D-3 seat belts keep driver and passenger safely inside. When the build was complete, Grant was most satisfied with the clean look of the overall appearance. The guys at Funco have found that the general design of the Kawasaki Teryx has created some challenges for the aftermarket tuner, but feel that the superiority of the base platform makes the extra effort worth it. Grant says that it’s important to look around when considering aftermarket modifications: “Do your homework and pick a reputable builder for long-term reliability.” That’s good advice for just about anyone.
